Georgia veterans cemeteries receive grants to expand

The Department of Veterans Affairs awarded two grants to Georgia Department of Veterans Service to expand Georgia’s two veteran cemeteries. The Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville received $5,135,900 to undergo its next expansion.

Dr. Joseph and Patricia Samprone of Gold Canyon, Ariz., were named Sept. 12 as recipients of the University System of Georgia’s 2024 Regent's Hall of Fame Alumni and Distinguished Friends Award during the 20th annual Regents’ Scholarship Gala.

Georgia Military College (GMC) celebrated the official grand opening of the NewDay USA Center of Leadership Sept. 12. The event featured a ribbon cutting with NewDay USA and GMC representatives and a keynote address from General James N. Mattis (USMC, Ret.).

Tools stolen from Arnall BuildingOn Sept. 11, law enforcement was dispatched to The Arnall Building, at 2271 Vinson Highway, in reference to a theft that already occurred. The complainant checked the location due to having trailers with tools in them in the area.
