“No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at his or her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice and menus of cooks present, and the wisdom of cookbook writers.”

magazine.

Many of us have wooden boxes stuffed with favorite recipes to remind us of the people, places, and occasions that shape our lives. But what if you could polish the best and organize them into a unique keepsake cookbook— complete with stories and other mementos—to be treasured by loved ones for generations to come?

Beginning 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, the Georgia Writers Museum (GWM) in downtown Eatonton will host “Writing an Amazing Cookbook,” presented by Susan Puckett. The workshop fee is $45 with registration available online at georgiawritersmuseum. org/writers-workshop.

In addition to the unique workshop, all participants will receive five tasting tickets for Taste of Eatonton, the annual local foodie festival to be held the same evening, nearby outside The Plaza Arts Center (tasteofeatonton. com).

The workshop session will cover writing recipes like a pro; adding context with stories, oral history, photos, lively food descriptions, and weaving together the elements into a cohesive format designed for the kitchen or bedside table.

Puckett also offers resources for those who wish to self-publish for personalized gift-giving, as well as for anyone interested in pursuing more ambitious commercial projects. Participants are encouraged—though not required—to send favorite recipes from their own collections to the instructor beforehand (info@georgiawritersmuseum.org) to add to the discussion.

Puckett is a James Beardnominated food journalist and editor who has authored or collaborated on more than a dozen books. She was the food editor for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for nearly 19 years and continues to contribute to its Food section.

Great cookbooks are more than just culinary blueprints.

They are creative inspirers of the master chef inside each of us.

And you can learn to write one!
