Road rager jailed

UPSET THAT WOMAN WAS ONLY DOING 45 ON LAKE LAUREL

Gunshots rang out on Lake Laurel Road around lunchtime Monday, and two different people in the area called 911.

Also calling 911 was a 53-year-old Milledgeville woman who was there when it happened.

The woman then met a deputy at the Whisky Tunnel liquor store at the corner of Ga. 22 and Kings Road. She said that a gold Dodge Ram pickup truck began driving erratically behind her, its driver apparently upset that she was only doing 45 miles per hour on Lake Laurel Road.

The woman added that she “pulled to the side of the road to let the truck pass.” Instead, however, the truck parked behind her, and a man emerged from the truck. He was later identified as Gary Wayne Kozuba, 49, listed with an Eatonton address.

Kozuba then approached the driver’s side. Added the incident report: “(The victim) stated the male told her she needed to speed up, then stated she needed to stop messaging with her navigation system. (The victim) stated the male then turned around and walked to the rear of her car. While he was walking away, [the woman] stated she heard three shots fired...Cox had conflicting statements as to the directions of the rounds the male fired.”

The three shell casings later were located by another deputy in front of 479 Lake Laurel Road. A BOLO was put out for the gold pickup truck, which was eventually located, and Kozuba was arrested.

He was charged with aggressive driving, discharging a firearm on or near a public highway, and reckless conduct.
