The Georgia Cycling Association will host its “Milledgeville Throwdown” cycling race at Walter B. Williams Park on Sept. 6-7, kicking off with pre-rides and team staging on Saturday and race day on Sunday. More than 1,200 youth riders from across the state will compete on the park’s scenic trails.
Families, coaches, and cycling fans will experience not only high-energy competition but also
Milledgeville’s welcoming community, dining, and attractions. The event is expected to deliver a significant economic impact for Baldwin County, generating more than 200 hotel room nights and an estimated $100,000 in spending through lodging, dining, and shopping at local businesses.
If anyone is interested in attending the Milledgeville Throwdown, the race begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept 7 at the park.
“Community support is key to making events like this successful. Local businesses are encouraged to show their support through sponsorships, signage, or special promotions. Residents are invited to cheer on the athletes, volunteer, or simply extend a warm Milledgeville welcome to visiting teams and their families,” said Christina Tillman, sales manager for Visit Milledgeville.
Visit Milledgeville aims to attract visitors by promoting the area’s leisure, cultural, and sports opportunities, and strengthening the local economy while fostering community pride.
“Welcoming the Georgia Cycling Association’s Milledgeville Throwdown highlights our community’s growing role as a destination for youth sports tourism,” said Rebekah Snider, executive director for Visit Milledgeville. “We’re excited to host student-athletes and their families, giving them the chance to experience Milledgeville’s hospitality while supporting local businesses, hotels, and attractions.”
