Susan Lindsley’s book Wildlife in Persimmon paradise took third place in the annual Excellence in Craft award presented by the Georgia Outdoor Writers Association.
“I am delighted to have third place in this contest” Lindsley said. “This is one of the strongest competitions I have entered. The Outdoor Writers are guys and gals who make a living with stories and articles about day-to-day events and are published in magazines and newspapers not just in Georgia but nationwide. I feel honored to belong to such an organization.”
Lindsley’s book is a collection of photographs and narratives about wildlife on her farm near Milledgeville. She had photographed such events as mating, does dancing with wild turkey hens, and tom turkeys chasing each other around.
“I became interested in ‘shooting’ wildlife with a camera when I quit hunting for the freezer,” Lindsley said. “Now I can shoot the same deer or gobbler not just once but over the years. It’s fun to see the changes in a deer’s antlers, see a fawn grow up, and watch gobblers act out.”
Her book won acclaim from Leonard Lee Rue III, America’s leading wildlife photographer, who said, “What Susan Lindsley has photographed in just 19 days, many hunters and wildlife enthusiasts will not see in a lifetime.”
Wildlife in Persimmon is available at the Red Door on S. Wayne Street. It is open Wednesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30_p.m.
