By all accounts, a pickleball fundraiser Nov. 18 at the Baldwin County Recreation Complex was immensely successful.
The one-day tournament was jointly hosted by the Milledgeville Exchange Club and the Milledgeville Pickleball Club. The event attracted 78 pickleball players from as far away as Winder and Statesboro.
“We had a great turnout, lots of players and others attending,” said Kim Herrin, who helped set up the day’s activities. “We raised $3,500 and 248 toys for needy children were donated.”
Contestants in six divisions battled for honors, with gold medals going to Butch Bryan and Brice Edmonson in Men’s 2.5; Taria and Anna Crump in Women’s 2.5; Sean Crowell and Artis Williamson in Men’s 3.0; Alivia Hendrix and Cynthia Lee in Women’s 2.0; Trey and Chase Owen in Co-ed 3.5; and Laura Mooneyham and Dawn Howerton in Women’s 3.5.
Tournament organizers thanked Slates Jewelers, Butler Honda, Battery Warehouse, and Coldwell Banker Access Realty for stepping up as event sponsors to help defray expenses and increase the amount going toward the charity.
“We want to thank all those who played, those who helped, and those who donated,” Herrin said. “It was a great day and a great effort for worthy causes.”
