Do you believe in magic? Well, I definitely do after last weekend.
As the clock struck midnight to roll the world into a new year, I was on the sideline at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the Peach Bowl, and if you watched the game, you know what I’m talking about.
I had no idea what time it was when Ohio State’s Noah Ruggles stepped up to attempt the game-winning field goal, but as the ball missed wide left and hit the turf, the clock struck midnight.
Cheers could be heard from all over the stadium as 2023 began, but it was eventually drowned out by the Bulldog fans that erupted when the game clock struck 0:00.
It was a magical game to say the least.
Georgia found themselves in a dogfight from the jump and Ohio State led at halftime. Even in the waning seconds of the third quarter, Kirby Smart’s team looked defeated.
All it took was a little bit of pixie dust.
Aside from the final play, Georgia executed flawlessly in the big moments down the stretch.
From a Smart timeout to prevent a fake punt to a one-play touchdown drive, the Bulldogs found a way to make it happen and come out on top.
It’s a lot different than watching from the bird’s eye view of the TV cameras, and I was unable to catch everything that occurred during the game, but I do know it was an instant classic.
Not a lot of people thought the game in Atlanta would top the barnburner that was the Michigan/TCU matchup in the other semifinal game, but it’s right there with it, if not more impressive.
The Bulldogs are now 14-0 on the season and have one more game to go to complete a perfect campaign.
They’ll have to go up against the TCU Horned Frogs Jan. 9, in a battle of magical programs.
It’s pretty hard to repeat as college football’s National Champions, but that is what the Bulldogs are set up to do if they can beat the Horned Frogs next Monday.
TCU on the other hand has objectively had the most magical season of all. After finishing with a losing record the year before, first-year head coach Sonny Dykes has led the Horned Frogs to a 13-1 record and a national- championship berth.
Which team’s magical 2022-23 season run comes to an end next week?
