JMA Baseball mercy rules Southland Academy

The John Milledge Academy Baseball team (14-4) faced off against Southland Academy Raiders (9-9) in a non-region game on April 19th at 4:30 p.m.

Cooper Wilburn started on the mound for the Trojans and as usual, pitched a great game. Wilburn pitched a complete game for JMA, only allowing two runs on five hits and recording an impressive seven strikeouts.

The Trojans got off to a great start, offensively scoring four runs in the first inning and two in the second. After the first two innings, the Trojans led the Raiders by a score of 6-0.

The JMA batters did not let up in the coming innings as they continued to score runs in the third and fourth inning, which brought the score to 14-2 going into the fifth inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, the JMA squad once more put up runs to eventually bring the score to 17-2. After the fifth inning was over, the game was pronounced finished after the mercy rule came into play.

Cooper Wilburn showed once again that he is not only a force on the mound but also in the batter’s box. Wilburn had two at-bats in which he hit a home run and took a base on balls. He recorded two runs and an RBI while at the plate.

Caleb Hayes also had a great game at the plate against the Raiders. He recorded two hits, four runs, and one RBI.

Other standout batters for the Trojans included Jackson Thomas and Bud Veal. Thomas recorded no hits but had three RBIs and a run. Veal had two at-bats and one hit while also recording three runs and an RBI.

The Trojans have one last game to play in the regular season this Thursday, April 21, at 4 p.m. against Piedmont Academy.
