The Georgia Military College Prep (GMCP) Bulldogs have been on a hot streak since the start of the month going 8-3 as of March 30. The Bulldogs have held the lead in GHSA A D2, Region Five throughout the season, going 8-0 in region play since March 3.
The Bulldogs got region wins seven and eight last week with a pair of wins over Twiggs County. The final scores could have been mistaken for football results as the Bulldogs won 21-0 in Jeffersonville March 24, then 17-0 two days later at home in Milledgeville.
The Bulldogs continued to dominate on the mound and complemented their pitching with great offense at the plate. Chase McCrary had an outstanding performance against Twiggs County in game one, pitching two innings of a three-inning mercy rule final. He struck out five batters and allowed no hits, no runs and one walk. At the plate, McCrary led the team in hits with three, along with three RBIs and four runs scored.
Noah Goddard closed out the game, striking out three batters in a row to complete the three-inning no-hitter and 21-0 victory.
Thursday’s game was eerily similar, with GMC Prep winning by mercy rule again highlighted by a 15-run second inning and a dominant pitching performance from Ayden Hamm and Goddard. Hamm struck out five batters and allowed one hit but walked zero. Goddard again struck out the side to finish off the win. The Bulldogs stayed hot at the plate with 16 hits as a team.
“We’re definitely confident, but as I’ve said all along, to be the man, you have to beat the man, and until we get out on the field and beat Johnson (County), they are the man,” Bulldogs head coach Kyle Redmond said. “That being said, I like where my guys are mentally right now.”
Redmond added that despite some sickness last week his Bulldogs won’t need extra motivation to face region rival Johnson County this week.
“I sure hope so. A lot of guys were sick this past week, so we are just hoping everyone is healthy and ready to go,” Redmond said. “This is Johnson County we’re talking about. These boys don’t need much other than that to get motivated for this week.”
“I knew it had been a while (since winning the region title). Man, this would mean so much to these boys and to this program as a whole,” Redmond said.
“We poured a whole lot in since I took over three years ago and it would be nice to see all that work become worthwhile. I love these kids and want this for them so bad. We just have to go out their and get it done.”
The Bulldogs will face the Johnson County Trojans twice this week with game one on Tuesday in Wrightsville and game two on Friday at Craig Field in Milledgeville at 5:30 p.m. The Trojans are in second place in region five and are the last region opponent for the Bulldogs in 2026.
A pair of wins over Johnson County would clinch a region title for GMC Prep for the first time since 2012.
