The Georgia College & State University (GCSU) women's soccer team defeated the University of South Carolina-Aiken 4-3 in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 7 at the Pacer Pit.
The Bobcats improved to 5-4-2 overall and to 2-2-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Pacers fell to 1-5-1 and 0-4-1.
The Bobcats were aggressive early, getting off nine shot attempts in the first 45 minutes of play. GCSU did most of their damage in the first half with goals coming in the 23rd, 29th and 45th minutes.
Morgan Amrozowicz found the back netting first for the Bobcats, with her first goal of the season. The goal was unassisted as Amrozowicz finessed her way around the Pacer defenders and booted the ball from the left side of the 18-yard box hitting the left side of the goal. Carter Drake knocked in the next two goals for GCSU. The first was assisted by Sarah Mason, as she received the ball at the top of the box and knocked it in. Drake then nabbed her second one off the assist from Ellie Fuller. Fuller found her in the middle of the box and Drake drilled the ball in.
The Bobcats stayed aggressive in the second half with 10 shot attempts. GCSU picked up a goal in the second half as well to hoist them over USCA. Fuller knocked in her first career goal as Mason and Drake picked up assists on the play. Drake passed it to Fuller in the middle of the box and she nailed it into the right side of the goal.
Amrozowicz led the shots on goal category for the Bobcats as she had three on the afternoon. Grace Phillips and Drake had the second most with two.
Goalkeeper Madison Drake had an outstanding game, picking up six saves to keep the Bobcats on top of the Pacers.
The Bobcats will play at home against Columbus State this Saturday at 3 p.m. and again at home Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. versus Tusculum University, out of Greenville, Tenn.
