ALBANY – The Georgia College & State University men’s golf team finished eighth at the rain-shortened Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southwestern State University last Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats shot a 289 – the fifth-lowest round of the day – on the par 72, 7,024-yard layout on Doublegate Country Club to finish the 36-hole tournament at 586. No. 8 Nova Southeastern University won the event at 561, two strokes better than the No. 6 Hurricanes. Ten of the teams were ranked or receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll.
Mason Pate was the top Bobcat in the field, finishing 13th at one-under par 143. Pate collected three birdies and an eagle on his scorecard as he shot a one-under par 71.
Brady Schnaible shot his second consecutive even-par round of 72 to finish the event tied for 18th at 144. Ty Willoughby also fired an even-par 72 in the final round and tied for 44th place at 149.
Chase Blanton signed for a 74 on his scorecard and finished in a tie for 54th at 151, while Andrew Lutjens contributed a 78 and came in at a tie for 69th at 154. Andy Scott, who was playing as an individual for GCSU, finished in a tie for 44th place at 149 after posted a 73 in the final round.
The Bobcats return to the course for the final time this fall when they compete at the Patriot Fall Classic Oct. 19 in Ninety Six, South Carolina. The tournament hosted by Lander University will be played at the Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor.
