The John Milledge Academy (JMA) Trojans enjoyed a thrilling week of baseball, winning three times in four days last week, including twice over region rival Piedmont Academy.
The Trojans began last Monday with a dominant 21-4 win in Macon over Windsor Academy in a mercy rule game due to the Trojans leading by more than 10 runs after five innings.
JMA followed up the next day with a thrilling seventh-inning rally over Piedmont that ended with a 3-2 walk-off win in Milledgeville after senior Lane Rhodes scored on a Cougars wild pitch.
“Those games are a lot of fun to play in,” Trojans head coach Tucker Bradley said. “Our guys continued to fight and put together good at bats all seven innings, and it finally broke through in the seventh. It was awesome to see. That’s the type of game you need to get prepared for the state playoffs.”
The Trojans next dominated the Cougars 18-4 on Thursday in another five-inning, mercy rule final.
Bradley noted his team’s collective mentality has been a big part of its recent success.
“Big we, little me is the main thing I took away,” the coach said. “We’ve been preaching it and I believe it’s coming together.
“We had a bunch of guys who have been off to a slow start begin to play big roles over the week and I think it’s the understanding of the name on the front, not on the back, that’s helping push us over.”
The Trojans did eventually lose last week, however, falling to Bethlehem Christian Academy in a 12-3 decision on Friday in Bethlehem.
JMA continued its season in Macon on Monday this week at region rival Stratford Academy before returning home to host Stratford on Tuesday.
