A Baldwin County man was arrested Feb. 9 after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit that crossed county lines and ended with a foot chase on State Route 22.

A deputy was dispatched to the Baldwin and Washington county line in reference to a motorcycle traveling without lights and driving recklessly. While positioned at the intersection of State Route 540 and the Stembridge Road extension, the deputy observed a dirt bike traveling east in the inside lane without lighting equipment. The driver, later identified as Jeremy Williams, was also not wearing a helmet. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, Williams accelerated in an attempt to flee, according to the incident report. The pursuit continued along SR 540 to SR 24, where Williams reached speeds of 65 to 75 mph in a 65-mph zone before turning toward SR 22.

According to the report, Williams then accelerated to speeds exceeding 80 mph in a posted 55-mph zone on SR 24. At the intersection of SR 22 and SR 24, he allegedly drove into a one-way lane against oncoming traffic.

Deputies said Williams attempted to cross an inclined median at the intersection, at which point the pursuing deputy maneuvered his patrol vehicle into Williams’ path, forcing him to stop. During the rapid stop, the patrol vehicle’s push bumper made contact with the dirt bike, knocking it over as Williams attempted to dismount.

Williams then fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief chase and taken into custody in the roadway on SR 22.

The dirt bike was towed from the scene by Central Georgia Towing.

Williams was transported to the county jail without incident. Authorities secured warrants for felony fleeing and eluding and misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He was also cited for nine traffic violations.
