Fatal crash takes one life, injures two

A vehicle collision Oct. 13 on Georgia Highway 22 resulted in one death and two people injured.

According to WGXA News, a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr was traveling east on Georgia Highway 22 when a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse failed to yield while turning, resulting in the front of the Lincoln striking the front left of the Chevrolet. This led both vehicles to come to an abrupt stop in the ditch by Georgia Highway 22.

The deceased man was identified as 47-year-old James Chester, the driver of the Lincoln. According to WGXA, Chester was transported to Atrium Health Baldwin, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as Pearl Kiefer, 83, and her passenger was identified as her husband, 84-year-old James Kiefer. Both were flown to Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon “with serious injuries,” according to the report.

According to the Union Recorder, Baldwin County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Chapple said an autopsy would be performed on Chester at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory in Dry Branch to determine the cause of death.

Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting the Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville with the investigation.
