Kristina Turner, the first female to ever hold the title of deputy state auditor at the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, spent three days at her alma mater, Georgia College & State University, to speak in classrooms, connect with current students, and share about her 25 years of experience.
During her three-day visit, she spoke to multiples classes last Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and was a guest at two extra events held on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
She was a featured speaker at the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology Executive Forum, which took place in Heritage Hall Tuesday evening, where attendees could hear open dialogue among business leaders from across the state.
On Oct. 9, Turner hosted a presentation titled, “Beyond the Bottom Line: Building Resilience Through Purposeful Leadership” in the Arts & Sciences auditorium. She shared knowledge gained from obtaining her degrees through GCSU, as well as what she learned through 25 years of dedication to her field.
“With her hard work and determination, [Turner] was able to break the glass ceiling,” said Dr. Muhammad Jizi, associate professor of accounting and interim chair of the Department of Accounting & Business Law at Georgia College & State University.
The presentation held Thursday evening focused on how Turner grew in her leadership abilities, while also offering advice for students on how to grow their career capabilities as well. The opening speaker was Dr. Jizi, while conversation throughout the event was led by GCSU senior Chloe Crosby.
“I encourage people to take ownership over their career the moment they walk through the door,” said Turner. “I think if you’re coming out of Georgia College, you’re going to have that core base of technical skills, but I also think that it’s important that you have those interpersonal skills like communication, a look out for innovation, and a willingness to step up.”
Turner encouraged future graduates to continue putting in the proper work to break barriers in their respective fields. Turner is a “Double Bobcat” with both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Management Information Systems.
“A good work ethic in your education can carry you to success,” she said.
