Woman shoplifts $367 worth of items
On Oct. 23, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N.
Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting. An individual passed the last point of sale using an emergency door with a shopping cart of items totaling $367.74.
The female got into a 2011 blue in color Nissan Rogue and left the scene. Asset Protection was able to bring the shopping cart back inside the store, which is how they were able to get the total of the items. No charges have been secured at this time.
Trespasser caught at Walmart
On Sept. 25, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a trespassing male. Asset Protection identified Cornelius Brown exiting the establishment, after he had been previously trespassed from the location. Brown is not allowed within 150 feet of the establishment. A warrant for criminal trespass was secured.
Suspicious individual apprehended
On Sept. 26, officers with the Milledgeville Police Department spotted a suspicious subject at College Station Apartments located at 501 N. Wilkinson St. An officer observed a male subject with his hoodie covering his face in the College Station Apartment parking lot, near the utility shed. Due to other calls at the time, the officer who saw the male was unable to make contact. Moments later, two officers were patrolling the area of College Station Apartments due to the high rate of entering auto cases the City of Milledgeville has been receiving. They located Cornelius Brown underneath a vehicle at Exxon, at 600 N. Jefferson St. Brown got up from underneath the vehicle and began to run towards the rear of an apartment building on 621 N. Wayne St. One officer chased Brown and gave loud verbal commands to stop running, however, Brown continued running away. Brown was located hiding underneath another vehicle at 621 N. Wayne St. Brown was placed under arrest. Warrants for criminal trespass and obstruction of officers were secured.
Abandoned vehicle destroyed resident’s bushes On Sept. 27, law enforcement responded to 279 Gumm Cemetery Rd. in reference to an abandoned vehicle. An unoccupied silver Nissan Murano was parked in the yard of a residence. The tire marks left the roadway and onto the homeowners yard. The vehicle appeared to have no damage, however, the homeowner's bushes were damaged by the vehicle. A search of the vehicle's registered owner was conducted in efforts to contact them, but it was unsuccessful.
Drunk man brandishes firearm at gathering
On Sept. 27, law enforcement was dispatched to 108 Shiloh Rd. in reference to a male brandishing a firearm, making threats, and refusing to leave.
Seaton Finney arrived at the victim’s residence heavily intoxicated on a bike.
When asked to leave, he reportedly became upset and began making verbal threats. The victim heard the sound of a firearm “being cocked” and saw Finney brandishing the weapon as he continued to make verbal threats. After the victim backed away, Finney biked away down Shiloh Road toward Harrisburg Road.
From previous incidents, the officer knew where Finney lived and traveled to the address. Finney complied with commands and during a search of his person, no firearm was found. However, Finney was placed under arrest for brandishing a firearm based on multiple witness reports. Warrants for aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the first degree were filed against Finney.
Man tries to start fight
On Sept. 27, officers in the Downtown Milledgeville area observed a male, identified as Bryce Hunter Mears, acting in a “belligerent and boisterous manner” attempting to fight another male on the sidewalk in front of Ned Kelly's, at 119 S. Wayne St. The other male was calm and simply walked away while Mears continued to act “extremely belligerent” after being told by an officer on multiple occasions to stop acting the way he was.
Mears was cited with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
Copper stolen from cut telephone lines
On Sept. 28, law enforcement made contact with a Kinetic representative at the cemetery at the corner of Highway 49 and Allen Memorial Drive. Overnight someone damaged the telephone cables running on the south side of the roadway of Highway 49. It appeared as if someone cut it with a hacksaw and several sections of empty line casings were located on the other side of the wood line from the telephone lines.
Approximately 80 feet of copper was stolen from the telephone line. It will cost approximately $20,000 to repair the damaged line.
