The Georgia Military College (GMC) Prep Bulldogs dropped to 0-2 with a 28-7 loss to Crawford County on a rainy Davenport Field last Friday night.
The loss came behind a poor firsthalf performance from the Bulldog offense. GMC Prep took a 7-0 lead with 5:36 to go in the first quarter but three consecutive turnovers in the second quarter led to Crawford holding a 21-7 halftime lead.
Despite the lopsided score it was not entirely the defense’s fault for relinquishing the first-quarter lead, GMC Prep head coach Gavin Tierce insisted.
“Turnovers. We had three giveaways on three straight possessions in the first quarter and that flipped the field position, killed our rhythm, and put our defense on short fields,” Tierce said following the game.
The Bulldog defense played with plenty of confidence in the second half, delivering 29 total tackles against the Eagles, with three tackles for loss and one sack. GMC Prep also recorded four pass break-ups with Kolby Thompson and Jack Dekle recording two apiece.
“Defensively, our kids were outstanding.” Tierce said. “They gave up two sustained drives all night, the other touchdowns were on the offense.”
The Bulldogs first offensive turnover came on a fumble while on their own goal line, leading to seven points for the Eagles. That was followed by a pick six and the 21-7 halftime lead for the visitors.
Regardless, Tierce expressed confidence in his offense to rebound and said he hopes to see much improvement this Friday night in Sandersville.
“Offensively, we have to protect the football, stack long, hard-nosed drives, and finish in the red zone,” he said. “Defensively, it’s setting the edge, tackling through contact, and getting off the field on third down.”
GMC Prep will travel to Sandersville on Friday to play Brentwood in what has become an annual Week 3 matchup since 2022.
