Allied Arts to host Marionette Variety Show

>> ALLIED ARTS

Allied Arts will be hosting a puppet show performed by Adam Clarke Feb. 8 filled with marionettes performing tricks and giving out gifts in a charming variety show.

Clarke reached out to Allied Arts in hopes of bringing his talents to Milledgeville. Allied Arts works to bring events like this to the city in hopes of providing a creative outlet for all.

“He (Clarke) has his own marketing agent. He emailed us and said he’s a marionette artist from Atlanta and told us he would be in Milledgeville in February. Then we got to know him a little through email and got to know what he does,” Executive Director of Allied Arts Rebekah Tobar said.

“Many don’t understand the art of puppets and what it means to those who perform with them or watch their shows,” Tobar added. “I think puppets are another form of creative expression. We tend to focus on what these things do for kids, but children grow into adults. Children who learn to express themselves creatively are better at communicating as adults and understanding themselves and other people, expressing their emotions in a healthy manner.”

The show will be at Allen’s Market from 4:305:30 p.m. Appropriate for all ages, attendees have a chance of winning prizes from the puppets and can potentially be in the show. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door.

The organization is “excited” about planning events for the future.

“We were talking to an Irish dance group. They would like to be here for St Patrick’s day, so we’ll see. We’re all for bringing whatever we can to the area,” Tobar said.
