When Carolyn Douglas first moved to Milledgeville in 2019, she had no idea she would find the place that could possibly be her forever home.
“I really didn’t know much about Milledgeville, and then I got on the Georgia College campus and immediately started seeing myself here,” she said. “I love the small town, and everyone seemed so friendly and welcoming.”
Douglas is from Alpharetta, where she was born and raised with her three siblings.
“I was homeschooled for a while. I would go to school twice a week but homeschool the rest of the week, so I think my mom and I are really close from that. We just grew up going to church every week and we were very involved there,” said Douglas.
Douglas is still heavily involved in the community through her church in Milledgeville, Northridge Christian Church. She volunteers in the elementary ministry every Sunday and is involved in a young adult group.
She discovered her initial interest in higher education after interning with Kudzu College Ministry.
“I learned that I love working with college students and wanted to do that kind of work outside of the ministry aspect and continue helping college students.”
While Douglas is passionate about having fun in life, she is just as dedicated to serving college students in her position at the Office of Student Success.
“I think that college is such a fun and hard and interesting time in someone’s life and so getting to just come alongside college students and help them, whether it’s just being someone for them to talk to or actually helping them make decisions, whatever that looks like, I love getting to kind of be that for someone,” said Douglas.
After graduating college in 2022, Douglas didn’t really have a reason to stay for a while, until she met her now boyfriend.
“I started dating my boyfriend who was born and raised in Milledgeville, and I wanted to stay here. Then he ended up starting a business here so that’s what solidified my decision of staying to be with him.”
Douglas loves enjoying meals at Bollywood and taking day trips to Hilton Head Beach with her boyfriend. Her adventurous spirit is evident in the way she speaks about her favorite activities.
“I love First Fridays, too. Those are so fun. Recently I’ve been playing a lot of pickleball … and honestly, just exploring the trails that are around here. It’s really fun.”
In the future, Douglas and her boyfriend plan to get married and start a family in Milledgeville, where she hopes to fulfill her dream of being a stayat- home mom.
