>> CRIME WATCH

The Milledgeville Police Department (MPD) is currently investigating two shootings that occurred last week.

On April 1, MPD responded to multiple calls of shots fired at the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue. A homeowner reported that her home had been struck multiple times by gunfire and a neighbor’s vehicle was also struck. Officers located multiple shell cases in the roadway and several witnesses reported seeing a white sedan leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

MPD with assistance from Georgia State Patrol troopers and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Gang Task Force canvassed the Harrisburg community for the sedan and it was located by a trooper. A traffic stop was attempted on the sedan, and the passenger, identified as Antonio Williams, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The trooper recognized Williams as one of two identified suspects from the day before and began to chase him on foot.

Two MPD officers spotted the sedan and were able to box it in and force it to stop on Harrisburg Road. The driver, identified as Nicholas Simpson, was taken into custody. Shortly after, Williams was located by the trooper and K-9 Duco hiding under an abandoned trailer on Peacock Road a short distance away. He was also taken into custody without incident.

Simpson was charged with three counts of party to the crime of aggravated assault. Williams was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, and criminal damage to property in the first degree.

Also on April 2, MPD responded to the area of South Jefferson Street and Caraker Avenue in reference to further reports of shots fired. While units were en route to the scene, a Nissan Maxima was seen leaving the scene and turning south onto Vinson Highway.

An MPD officer located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop on Broad Street near the intersection of Swint Avenue. The four occupants in the vehicle stated they had just been shot at on Caraker Avenue and were fleeing the area for safety.

Officers located a firearm hidden on the rear passenger side floorboard of their vehicle and also located shell casings in the roadway of South Jefferson Street and Caraker Avenue. All four occupants were taken to the police department to be interviewed by detectives but as of April 4, no arrests had been made.
