Back for a fourth year, The Plaza Arts Center in conjunction with The Arts Barn is presenting their Broadway Intensive Summer Program, with Working: A Musical as the chosen production.
Working is a musical exploration of people from all walks of life. Set in contemporary America, the show’s strengths lie in exposing core truths that transcend specific professions.
The key is how people’s relationships to their work ultimately reveal essential aspects of their humanity, regardless of the trappings of the job itself.
Working allows the audience a rare glimpse of the actors and technicians working to put on a show. As always, anyone from a rising 10th grader to 25 years old is invited to audition for the Broadway Intensive Summer Program, a two-week project in which attendees work with a Broadway veteran to produce a professional-level show.
Previously, this program has produced Once Upon A Mattress, Godspell, and last year, Seussical. Over just two weeks, participants learn the entire show and then perform for the public over two mid-summer weekends.
For anyone interested in being a part of Working, virtual auditions are required.
To audition: 1. Record a 30-to-60-second monologue; 2. Record a 30-to-45-second singing clip (including track or live accompaniment); 3. Record the applicant performing the dance combo to be found at theartsbarn.net/youth-programs/ the-broadway-intensive.
Your full body needs to be in the frame for the dance portion. 4.
Attach a headshot (does not have to be a professional headshot,) your resume, and a completed online audition form. Send all of these virtual elements to info@theartsbarn.net by Feb. 28.
To allow anyone to participate, regardless of financial status, all participants’ fees are covered by the Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS).
