At approximately 9:15 p.m., on Sept. 1, Milledgeville Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Wray Homes in reference to multiple 911 calls of shots fired.
While searching the area, officer Taylor Schneider discovered three shell casings near a gray Ford F-150 and made contact with a female witness.
While standing outside, the witness said a male, wearing all black, approached her and her boyfriend, who pulled out a handgun and pulled the slide to the rear. When she heard the gun charge, she began running and continued running until the sounds of shooting stopped. However, the witness could not identify the shooter.
In another report, Officer John Childress located multiple witnesses in the 400 block of Earnest Byner Street who stated while sitting outside they were approached by a male subject dressed in black clothing and a black ski mask. Reportedly, he spoke to them but they were unable to understand. After speaking, witnesses stated the male backed up and withdrew a firearm and began shooting at them. One of the victims, who was lawfully carrying a firearm, returned fire in self-defense.
While returning fire, the victim was then shot at by several more subjects. When canvassing the area two shell casings were located on the sidewalk.
Detectives responded and as a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify Travion Antwan Butts, 18, as one of the shooters.
On Sept. 2, while patrolling on West Thomas Circle, an officer located Trevion Butts on the porch of a residence that he did not live at. Butts was detained in reference to the shooting, and while searching his person, Schneider found a clear plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana. Officer Schneider then transported Butts to the police department for an interview with detectives.
Butts was trespassed from Elite Choice Properties (Wray Court) and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Butts has also been charged with six counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
