Floyd L. Griffin, the former Georgia state senator and mayor of Milledgeville, plans to offer free motivational speaking seminars on “My Secrets for Personal and Career Success” to high school and college students throughout Georgia.
Griffin, author of Legacy to Legend: Winners Make It Happen: A Trailblazer and Life Four Quarters: Plus Overtime, turns to 14 rules that he’s lived by, studied, and taught for more than 55 years in a speech that is designed to inspire and motivate Georgia’s youth on a clear path to success.
In an era and time when so many youths need additional support and positive role models, this inspiring speech will encourage them to tackle life’s challenges, face each day with passion and purpose, increase their confidence, and help them realize they can be anything they want to be if they are willing to apply the discipline to do so. Taken together and practiced daily, these 14 rules will provide young people with a proven blueprint to help them achieve any desired goal.
Griffin was born in Milledgeville to two entrepreneurial parents who taught him the value of hard work at an early age. He holds an associate of science in funeral service from Gupton Jones College, a bachelor of science degree in building construction from Tuskegee University, and a master of science in contract and procurement management from Florida Institute of Technology.
In addition, he graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College as well as the National War College.
In 1967, Griffin joined the U.S. Army and served as a helicopter pilot, instructor pilot, and commander of a construction engineering company in Vietnam.
Also, during his tenure, he commanded an engineer construction battalion at Fort Stewart. Griffin is a Vietnam veteran, and during his time in the service, he completed a tour of duty in Germany. During his military career, he also was an assistant professor of military science at Wake Forest University and the ROTC director at Winston-Salem State University.
While at Winston-Salem State University, he was an assistant coach for the football team and assisted in their two college championship wins. In 1990, Griffin finished his esteemed military career and retired as a Colonel.
