>> CRIME WATCH

Patrol units with the Milledgeville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired on the 23000 block of Laura Court at approximately 9:45 p.m., June 10.

According to an incident report by Officer Jalen Webb, officers located multiple shell casings in the roadway and driveways along Laura Court and observed bullet damages to several vehicles and homes. As officers secured the scene, Webb spoke to the owner of one of the vehicles damaged.

“[The witness] stated he was inside of his apartment during the entire incident. He stated he heard shots coming from outside of his apartment but never knew his vehicle was struck during the shooting,” Webb wrote in the report. Webb notes in the report that after talking to the vehicle owner, he was approached by three female witnesses who asked to remain anonymous. According to their statements, they were walking from Anthony Way toward the cul-de-sac on Laura Court when they saw the fire from a gun and heard the shots.

“When asked, they advised there was no vehicle involved and the shooter left on foot but couldn’t provide a location of the suspect,” wrote Webb.

According to the Milledgeville Police Department’s Facebook Page, as officers were gathering information on-scene, Atrium Health Navicent-Baldwin informed officers that a 16-year-old juvenile had been checked into the hospital with a single gunshot wound to the leg. Detectives responded to the hospital and scene while officers continued their investigation of Laura Court.

The Facebook post also stated that, during the investigation, Officer Aaron Lewis located a puppy shot in the leg and abdomen. The puppy was turned over to Baldwin County Animal Control and Services in Georgia and transported to the Animal Hospital of Milledgeville for treatment.

According to the post, the juvenile victim who was shot and another juvenile with them were walking the puppy on Laura Court when both juveniles were shot at by several male subjects in the area, likely the ones spotted by the anonymous female witnesses.

Officer Raymond Borders also wrote a report related to another shooting in Laura Court stating that dispatch received reports of possible damage to property by gunfire about 12:30 a.m., June 11. According to the resident of the apartment who called in the report, police came out during the night but were unable to locate any damage. However, the resident called police again, leading to Borders’ response at 3:05 p.m., due to hearing a loud clanging noise and locating a copper jacket from a bullet within her apartment. The resident also located a bullet hole in the front window and its curtain. Borders reported nothing further in his report.

An update was posted to the Milledgeville Police Department’s Facebook Page on June 15 stating officers were able to identify Jacquavious Ke’Andrew James as one of the suspects involved in the shooting. On June 15, members of the Special Response Team executed a search warrant and multiple arrest warrants for James at a residence on Anthony Way.

James was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Baldwin County Jail. He has been charged with the following offenses: two counts of felony aggravated assault, felony cruelty to children in the first degree, misdemeanor cruelty to children in the third degree, cruelty to animals and felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
