What: Milledgeville Fireworks More info: The City of Milledgeville will present the Independence Day Firework Celebration on July 1 just after dark on the campus of Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC). The parking lot at the campus will be closed off for the event. Suggested viewing areas for the fireworks include Walter B. Williams Park and the parking lot of the Board of Education.

What: “Thank you for your service” Exhibit When: 2-4 p.m. Where: The Marlor House More info: Allied Arts will be displaying art by military veterans from the Georgia War Veterans Home to honor them for their service from July 7-21st. Stop by to support your local vets and thank them for their service! Opening Reception for the exhibit is on July 7 from 2 - 4 p.m. The contributing artists from the Georgia War Veterans Home will be present at this event.

What: Peewee Basketball Camp When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Where: GC Wellness Center More info: Open to ages 5-12, this fun camp is designed for developing young players who want to improve their basketball skills and learn the rules of the game. The morning sessions will involve learning skills for all levels of players while the afternoons are filled with actual games. We will also be going to the pool, so don’t forget a swimsuit and towel. What: Songwriting Camp When: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Where: Health Sciences Movement Lab More info: Open to musicians of all levels, this program will give campers the opportunity to express themselves through songwriting. They will get to learn basic songwriting techniques and how to use digital audio workstations and MIDI programming and recording. Camp is open for 5th through 8th graders and costs $200. This year, the spirit and tradition of Kids’ University day camp continues with a summer full of games, outdoor fun, swimming, arts and crafts, and new friendships. Campers will have daily opportunities to learn and have incredible amounts of FUN through learning, exploratory, and recreational activities. What: Save Jimmy Davis Park March & Rally When: 11 a.m march; 12 p.m. rally Where: Jimmy Davis Park, 125 Hogan Blvd., Eatonton More Info: A new chapter in the long fight to save Jimmy Davis Park will continue with a march from the park to the Putnam County Courthouse for a rally on the courthouse lawn to show community strength and purpose, and celebrate early success with the county’s new commitment to the park. Speakers include Georgia NAACP President Gerald Griggs and Cynthia Davis, daughter of the late Jimmy Davis, Putnam County’s first Black council member.
What: 4th annual Poker Run on Lake Sinclair When: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Where: Dennis Station Boat Ramp More info: $55 entry fee per player. Hosted by Georgia’s Old Capital Heritage Center at The Depot, the 4th annual Lake Sinclair Poker Run is a giant scavenger hunt on Lake Sinclair that begins at Dennis Station in Putnam County at 9:30 a.m. when players receive maps and instructions. A short briefing with a DNR representative follows at 9:45 a.m., before boats head out. Players follow their maps to specific locations around the lake, where they pick up a playing card. During the day they explore the lake, enjoy a cook-out on Goat Island prepared by Aubri Lane’s at The Club ($20 extra per player), meet new friends, and learn some local history. From 2-3 p.m., players return to Dennis Station, where they reveal their cards. Five-card poker rules apply, with the best hand winning $1,000 and $500 going to the runner-up.
