Law enforcement was dispatched to Harrisburg Road in reference to an altercation in which Cheiketa Yarbrough reportedly busted out a window at a residence April 28 and then fled in a brown Honda.
The complainant added that Yarbrough ran off into some bushes while leaving, and one of the rear tires went flat.
While in the area of Irwinton Road and Fifth Street, an officer observed a brown Honda with a rear flat tire being driven, and the vehicle immediately accelerated to a high speed and turned recklessly onto Hardwick Street.
The vehicle failed to stop for a traffic stop and failed to stop at numerous stop signs as it fled. Nearing the dead end of Central Avenue, the driver attempted to exit the vehicle while the vehicle was still moving but fell, holding onto the driver’s door while the vehicle drug her down the road.
The handle on the door broke off, and the woman, later identified as Yarbrough, fell to the pavement, the vehicle passing by her and nearly running her over. She attempted to flee on foot, but an officer deployed a taser to the center of her back, causing her to fall to the ground.
After a brief struggle, Yarbrough was arrested.
While dealing with the suspect on scene, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath and person. Yarbrough reportedly was combative, had red, bloodshot, watery eyes and was unsteady on her feet. During a search of the woman’s purse – during which she screamed for someone to pick-up and take it during her arrest – a driver’s license positively identified Yarbrough, and officers located a glass pipe smoking device with steel wool stuffed into it.
Warrants were secured for felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, misdemeanor obstruction of an officer and possession and use of drug-related objects against Yarbrough. In addition, she was cited for reckless driving, DUI (refusal), failure to obey stop sign, open container, and driving without a valid license.
