What: Book Launch When: 3-6 p.m. Where: The Red Door, 33 S. Wayne St., Milledgeville More info: Author Susan Lindsley details forgotten facts in her book Milledgeville’s Sesquicentennial Murders. She provides legal documents and court testimony for events. The book is scheduled to be launched on May 2, the 70th anniversary of the shootings. Those who purchase their book on May 2 will receive a gold label on the cover of the book to commemorate the two dates.

What: Full Moon Float When: 8 p.m. Where: Oconee River Greenway More info: Experience kayaking the Oconee River by the light of the full moon. What: ServSafe Food Safety Management Certification When: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Where: Chappell Hall 113 More info: Not just for managers, this full course is also for owners, operators, F&B directors, chefs, line cooks, kitchen managers, dietary managers, dieticians, and anyone else who needs food safety training and certification. This program is nationally recognized and accepted by the Georgia Department of Community Health, and the certification is valid for five years. The fee is $135 and includes instruction and a paper exam. The deadline to register is May 5.

What: Kids Fishing Event When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Where: Hwy 441 South, 1534 Irwinton Road More info: Over 1,000 catfish have been stocked in Lockerly’s pond. Some are BIG & are waiting for you to catch them! For children ages 16 and under. One adult per two children. Lockerly provides hotdogs for bait, but you can bring worms if you prefer. Bring your own rods, reels, tackle, stringer or bucket. Take home up to 5 fish per child!

What: Learning in Retirement When: 11:15 a.m. Where: Freedom Church, 500 Underwood Rd., Milledgeville More Info: An informative speaker will talk while lunch is served. Lunch is $15. What: Science Camp Jr: Mystery Science When: 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Mon-Th) Where: GC Main Campus, Friday Lake Laurel (GC East Campus) More info: For rising 3rd-5th graders and for rising 6th-9th graders. Cost is $130 per child. Georgia College Academic Outreach and Science Education Center will explore the wonder and excitement of science through experiments, puzzles, and scientific mysteries of all sorts! What: Creature Camp: Newborn & Nesting When: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Where: Monday-Wednesday Main campus & Centennial Hall, Thursday-Friday, Lake Laurel More info: We will search the woods and the waters for baby animals of all sorts, grow a few of our own, learn all about their life cycles, why they look the way they do and what to do if we find one. What: Songwriting Camp When: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Where: Health Sciences Movement Lab More info: Open to musicians of all levels, this program will give campers the opportunity to express themselves through songwriting! They will get to learn basic songwriting techniques and how to use Digital Audio Workstations and MIDI programming and recording. Camp is open for fifth through eighth graders and costs $200. What: “Peg Leg” Howell BBQ & Blues Festival When: 2-10 p.m. Where: City Center Stage, Eatonton More info: Join the City of Eatonton for the inaugural “Peg Leg” HowellBBQ&BluesFestival. Joshua“PegLeg”Howellwasborn in Eatonton in 1888 and at age 21, taught himself to play guitar. In 1926, his song, “New Prison Blues,” became the first country blues record ever to be issued by Columbia Records. Howell died in 1966 at the age 78, in Atlanta. This free event will feature a full day of live blues music, along with authentic BBQ. What: Writers Workshop with William Walsh When: 10 a.m. to Noon Where: Georgia Writers Museum, 109 S. Jefferson Ave., Eatonton More Info: William Walsh will be conducting a workshop for writers covering such topics as character and plot development, scene construction, creating tension, and crafting details guaranteed to keep readers engaged and enthralled. He will use Alice Walker’s The Color Purple as his teaching tool. The author of six books, Walsh is a professor of creative writing at Reinhardt University. The fee is $35.
