Milledgeville areas under boil water advisory

A water main break caused disruption for the Baldwin County School District, the local hospital and other businesses in Milledgeville on Monday.

According to City Manager Hank Griffeth, the water main break was repaired by 2:30 p.m. on Monday.

“This problem involved a 14-inch raw water line sending water into Tanyard Creek, along Martin Luther King Jr. Street,” said Griffeth. “Until we could get it repaired several areas were without water but we stayed in constant communication with them.”

Due to this break, the Baldwin County School District canceled classes at every BCSD school on Monday. In addition, Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital canceled outpatient surgical procedures. Though, with quick repairs, the school district returned to school on Tuesday and Griffeth assured that the hospital and other businesses affected were informed of the repairs.

However, a boil water advisory was issued late Monday afternoon. According to a press release on The City of Milledgeville Facebook page, the advisory is for North ABC St., Stadium St., Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital and Zchimmer & Schwarz. Water pressure in these areas has dropped to dangerously low levels that could result in backflow or black-siphonage of unknown water into the water distribution system. As a result, the advisory will likely be in place for the next 24 hours.
