>> GEORGIA BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

On Monday, the GBI released a statement that Malik Smith, 18, and Jarius Washington, 19, both of Milledgeville, were arrested and charged with felony murder related to the death of 18-year-old Syee Devon Havior. In addition, a second unnamed juvenile has been taken into custody related to the case.

On Feb. 2, law enforcement were called out to 145 Black Springs Road after a witness reported Havior had been shot at the residence. The witness did not see the shooting but was able to see that Havior had a gunshot wound to the chest after they exited the bathroom.

According to the incident report, Officer Thomas Coley entered the home to find Havior unconscious and unresponsive. Coley, Deputy Clements and Deputy Henderson started treatment on scene and discovered a wound on the left side of Havior’s chest when bandaging him.

“Once we placed the bandage wrap on the wound, Deputy Henderson started to administer CPR…EMS arrived on scene and began giving medical aid to Syee (Havior),” wrote Coley in the report. “We moved Syee to the stretcher and I continued to administer CPR while EMS strapped him on the stretcher. We transported Syee to the ambulance and he was turned over to EMS.”

According to a press release from the GBI, the investigation determined that Havior had been shot multiple times and died later in the hospital.

“Preliminary information indicates that after midnight, multiple people traveled to Havior’s home. At least one person entered and began shooting,” states the press release.

At the time of the first press release on Feb.

2, warrants for Smith and Washington had been released and the unnamed juvenile had already been taken into custody. However, it was not until Feb. 6 that the GBI stated that Smith and Washington had been taken into custody.
