What: Coffee and Canvases When: 1-4 p.m. Where: WH Smith Building More info: Over the past year, Jessica Whitehead has turned her talents to photographing poignant and moving images of Central State Hospital. Her Seeking Asylum exhibit will open at the W.H.

Smith building in downtown Milledgeville. View over 35 photos of Central State Hospital as you have never seen it before. Grab a cup of joe and enjoy unique images from Central State.

Jefferson Ave., Eatonton More info: Author Kim Conrey will discuss her new sci-fi romance novel Stealing Ares. The science-fiction-themed event will feature a “moon” shine tasting, along with finger foods and out-ofthis- world desserts like MoonPies, Milky Ways, and Mars bars.

What: Second Annual Writer’s Retreat When: Friday 5-8 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where: Georgia Writers Museum, 109 South Jefferson Street More Info: More than a dozen highly successful authors from all over the South will be conducting workshop sessions on topics ranging from “Writing Book Proposals” to “World Building in Science Fiction.” The retreat will feature keynote speakers, critique groups, and open mic readings. If you are an author or want to become one, this is a must-attend experience. Cost is $270 for the full conference, $130 for one day, and $45 per session.
