Law enforcement received a report of a stolen vehicle Sunday, and officers were dispatched after receiving information that the vehicle was on the move near Kings Road.
When the vehicle was located, a sergeant attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated away. The sergeant lost sight of the vehicle before it was reported as seen on Lake Laurel Road near Black Springs Road.
Another traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed and began passing in a no passing zone. Eventually, the vehicle abruptly slowed down in an attempt to pull into a driveway on Lake Laurel Road.
Missing the driveway, the vehicle fell into a ditch and hit a tree. The driver, later identified as James Dudley, exited the vehicle and ran barefoot into the woods.
Dudley was caught and placed under arrest for felony fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, felony theft by taking of motor vehicle and received a citation for reckless driving, a citation for driving while license suspended and was charged with one count of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
