Unpermitted workers accidentally cut main city water line

On April 30, law enforcement was dispatched to 179 Garrett Way in reference to damage to property. Upon arrival, law enforcement made contact with an individual who was actively fixing a broken water line that was spilling out water. The individual was being assisted by two others. Law enforcement then called and spoke with someone who works with the city of Milledgeville’s water department, to investigate the overflowing pipe. He stated a city truck would be arriving shortly to assist in shutting the water down. He stated to law enforcement that he would like a police report because the individuals working on the water lines did not have permits to work on them. Once the situation was under control, law enforcement spoke with each individual working on the pipes. One male had 40 years of experience for the county water department and was there to assist another male. The male he was assisting had been hired by the owner of the building to take the main line with 1 meter, run 3 separate water lines, one to each business with their own water line/ meter combination. According to this male, he had spoken with the city prior to working and was given permission to tap into the city line. The owner of the building did confirm that he hired the male to work on the water lines. While working, the pair accidentally cut a main city line and called the city water department to inform them. The pair both reported that the city had been informed prior about the work that was going to be done. According to the report, the city informed them that anything behind the meter had to be done at the building’s owner's expense and that is why they were present when they accidentally hit the city line. The report notes that it is unclear how much water was wasted and how much the damage was valued at. There is nothing further at this time.

Male becomes irate and refuses to pay for gas

On May 1, law enforcement was dispatched to Jet Foods in reference to a theft. The employee informed law enforcement that a male entered the store and gave her $20 for gas on pump eleven. After the male finished pumping gas, his total was for $80.01. When the male was approached, he reportedly became irate and stated he would not pay for his gas. According to the employee, the male began to call her names and took a picture of her with his phone. The employee stated that the male advised her that he only had $100 dollar bills but that he refused to listen to logic and left the location. The employee was able to give a short description of the male but there did not appear to be any cameras near the gas pumps to view the offender. According to the report, cameras on the inside of the business should capture the male’s face and a manager will give access for those to be reviewed. There is nothing further.
