Wilkinson Used Cars and Title Pawn, a family-owned business in Milledgeville, offers customer service with satisfaction above all else.
The business is located at 410 North Wayne Street in Milledgeville and is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Jeffrey Wilkinson, the owner, said he’s lived in Milledgeville his entire life. When he was growing up he couldn’t wait to leave Milledgeville, but he said it’ll always be home.
“Milledgeville is a good-sized community. I used to want something bigger than Macon, but here everyone knows each other,” he said. “I love that when something happens, you know who to go talk to about it.”
He said he feels Wilkinson Used Cars is important for Milledgeville, because they have a good reputation for being in the area so long. He said they try to look after their customers in every way they possibly can. He said most of his customers have watched him grow up. “I’m a third-generation
“I’m a third-generation dealer, and we started in 1953. Our main business is to buy here, pay here, and we have a mechanical shop here, so we can work on people’s cars. People can make payments here, and most of our cars come with a free warranty. We have the capability of car rentals, and we have a title pawn as well,” Wilkinson said. The owner said they
The owner said they sell everyday cars such as Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Toyota, and brands like that. He said they like to buy vehicles they can work on.
“It’s more than just selling people cars. We have a lot of repeat buyers, and people who bring their family I’ve always known to buy a car. It’s about maintaining that relationship with the customers,” he said. “We have the mechanical side to keep their cars running, and we work with people on their payments when times are hard.”
Wilkinson said his grandfather started the business long ago. His grandfather lost his first business, then in the late 1940s he ran a car business in Atlanta. He said after his grandfather got out of business in Atlanta, he moved back to Milledgeville to start Wilkinson Used Cars on a $500 loan from his aunt.
“They didn’t hit their stride until about the 60s and 70s, and they started doing better. Back then a car payment would have been about $10 per week, so they’d ride around collecting payments. When they started doing better, they started buying better cars. They were able to get better customers, so it took off from there,” he said.
Wilkinson said he recently won Quality Dealer of the Year for the state of Georgia. He said it was awesome to win, and it feels great to be recognized. He said his father won in 1995. He said Wilkinson Used Cars and Title Pawn will be around for an even longer time.
“I started washing tires when I was six years old. I’ve worked everything here,” Wilkinson said. “I go out there to sell a car, and it’s what the customers see the car to be. That’s my favorite thing. They might see it as transportation for their children. I love to hear what people are going to do with a car.”
