On Jan. 25, law enforcement responded to shots fired and a male subject being injured at AM City Package at 1557 Vinson Hwy.
Officers canvassed the parking lot and bystanders reportedly began pointing beside the business where a gray Ford Crown Victoria was parked.
Bystanders reported that there was a man behind the vehicle with a gun. Officers went to the rear of the vehicle and found the male, later identified as Willie Lee Carswell Jr., standing there. According to the incident report, Carswell stated the gun was on the trunk.
The victim, Johnathan Bolston, was lying on the ground beside the same vehicle with a gunshot wound to his left pelvis area.
“Several witnesses on scene were yelling to the officers the subject with the gun was the offender. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident and immediately began providing aid to the victim,” according to the Milledgeville Police Department Facebook page.
Once Navicent Health EMS arrived on the scene, the victim was turned over to them for further treatment, and he was transported to Atrium Health Macon.
Carswell was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and recklessly endangering others.
