The Rotary Club of Milledgeville had a full and impactful August, marked by service, fellowship, and leadership development opportunities for local youth.
One highlight was hearing from two students the club sponsored to attend this summer’s Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA).
RYLA brings together high school students from across Georgia for a week of leadership training, team building, and personal growth. This year, the Milledgeville club sponsored Kalia Wright, a senior at GMC Prep, and Parker Soltay, a junior at John Milledge Academy.
Both students shared how the program strengthened their leadership skills and inspired them to serve their schools and communities. Applications for next year’s RYLA will open soon.
In addition to youth engagement, the club continued to live out Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”
In July and August, members partnered with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to provide backpacks filled with essential supplies for children in transition.
Thanks to a generous donation from Overview, Inc., the club was able to prepare and distribute more than 50 backpacks to local children in need.
Looking ahead, September’s service project will support the Communities in Schools Little Free Library program. Rotarians will collect new and gently used children’s books to be stocked in Little Free Libraries throughout Baldwin County, expanding access to reading materials for local families.
The month will also include opportunities for fellowship. On Sept.
29, the Rotary Clubs of Milledgeville, Macon, and Jones County will co-host a joint social gathering at the Bent Axle in Gray. All Rotarians are invited to attend.
