Red Roo Defense, a firearms and ammunition shop, is available in Jones County to help locals with their guns and gun accessories needs.
The business is located at 4279 Upper River Road in Gray, but the owner only does business by appointment only. To reach him, call 478-951-3704. He asks that potential customers reach out to him first and not just show up.
Matthew Sims, the owner of Red Roo Defense, said he moved to Jones County when he was two years old, so he’s really only known Jones County. He said his family lived in Bloomfield before coming to Jones County.
“I like everything about Jones County. Right now I live about two miles from where I grew up,” he said. “I like that I’m surrounded by family, and I know a lot of the people who live in this area. The schools are great here. It’s just everything, because it’s home to me.”
He said his dad had guns, so he just grew up with them. He said he hunted growing up. He said he just got interested in guns the more he was exposed to them, and it’s become a passion.
“I sell guns, ammunition and some accessories. I try to be a full-service firearms shop. I started my business in January of 2021, and I wanted to own this kind of business for a long time. I grew up with guns, and they’ve been a part of most of my life. I thought about opening my business for a while, and I just didn’t until recently,” Sims said.
The business owner said he sells handguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers, accessories for the guns, magazines, receivers, and ammunition. He said he likes to have the most common items that most people are interested in. He said he usually works by order, and tries to get his customer’s what they want.
“There aren’t too many firearm and gun dealers in Jones County, so that’s why Red Roo Defense is important for the county,” Sims said. “This is a service Jones County needs, because there aren’t too many to choose from here.”
Sims said people should do business with Red Roo Defense, because he is an honest person who wants to help people do the right thing for them. He said he enjoys what he does, so he takes the time to help people find what they need. He said he knows his products and does research.
“It’s your right to own a firearm according to the Constitution,” Sims said. “Not everyone is comfortable with owning a firearm, but these last few years have been some of the biggest with first time firearm buyers and users. It’s a fun hobby, it’s a way to defend yourself and it’s a way to protect yourself and your assets.”
