Baldwin County Fire units Engine 6, Engine 7, and Engine 8, along with Battalion 1 and Squad 17, and Putnam County Fire Department responded to a structure fire call at 4:30 a.m. Dec. 4 on Cape Harbor Drive.
Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and Atrium Health Navicent Emergency Medical Service were also on scene to assist.
"Morning crews arrived on scene to find a single story structure with heavy fire through the roof. It took about an hour to gain control of the fire," said Deputy Fire Chief Bradley Towe of Baldwin Fire Rescue.
At noon, Baldwin Fire Rescue was still in "overhaul mode" extinguishing hot spots on site. Towe reported that two dogs and two cats perished in the fire. Two cars burned in the double garage.
"The cause of the fire is currently unknown and investigation will begin when the hot spots are out," said Towe, during an interview Dec. 4.
According to authorities, the three residents of the home were able to make it out safely. As of Dec. 8, the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.
