Derquavious Kier, a suspect in the Nov. 25 murder on Anthony Way, was arrested on Dec. 21 at Riverbend Apartments.
On Nov. 25, patrol units from the Milledgeville Police Department (MPD) responded to multiple reports of shots fired. While units were on the way to the scene they were advised of multiple homes and vehicles struck by gunfire.
When officers arrived in the area, they located a dark blue Toyota Corolla at the end of Anthony Way with several bullet holes and discovered the victim, 16-year-old Desmond Rivers, suffering from a gunshot wound in the front passenger seat. Rivers was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Through investigation, the Milledgeville Police Department detectives identified three suspects in this incident. Two suspects were arrested Nov. 25, while Kier remained at large.
However, the Milledgeville Police Department received information last week that Kier was at Riverbend Apartments and was able to determine which apartment Kier was staying in.
According to The Milledgeville Police Department’s Facebook page, the MPD Special Response Team, along with a deputy marshal with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, made entry into the apartment and located Kier hiding in a closet under a pile of clothes. Kier was taken into custody without incident.
Kier was charged with felony murder, four charges of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit a crime.
The apartment Kier was found in was leased to 22-year-old Shymecia Lewis, who was also arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive along with several other outstanding warrants.
According to the post, three other people inside the apartment were also arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive, and, as of Dec. 21, warrants were pending on four other individuals after further investigation.
