JMA football participates in UGA 7-on-7 camp

The John Milledge Academy Trojans football team traveled to Athens June 22, to compete in Kirby Smart’s 7-on-7 football camp at the University of Georgia.

The Trojans took a turn between the hedges as they played three 7-on-7 exhibition games on Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium and a fourth game at the UGA football indoor practice facility.

The Trojans’ first game was against Jackson County, followed by a match with the Purple Hurricanes out of Monticello, before wrapping up their first set of games in game three. Some heavy rain played a role in a couple of the games played at Sanford Stadium but ultimately JMA cruised to three straight wins.

After a break for lunch, the JMA boys headed over to East Rutherford Street at the UGA football indoor and outdoor practice fields, where the Trojans faced the Douglas County Tigers, a GHSA 6A member team.

The Tigers jumped out to a quick lead and the Trojans struggled to keep up with the talented Tigers offense and were bounced out of the tournament. Still, all agreed the day was a great learning experience for everyone involved.

The Trojans will continue their offseason preparation this month before readying for the regular season in their preseason fall camp in August.
