A Georgia Military College football player died Dec. 15 after his home in Rock Cliff Court, Stone Mountain, caught on fire.
According to the Atlanta First broadcast, the homeowner was 21-year-old Izaiah Taylor’s grandfather. He confirmed the morning of Dec. 16 that Taylor had perished in the fire.
“Crews responded to the fire on Rock Cliff Court shortly after 1 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department,” Atlanta First published. “A neighbor told firefighters they believed someone was inside the home during the fire. Crews later found Taylor dead.”
According to Georgia Military College, Taylor transferred to the college in February this year. He played football for the first half of the season before transitioning to take classes through GMC Online.
“Georgia Military College is deeply saddened by the loss,” Georgia Military College told The Baldwin Bulletin. “Our hearts are with Izaiah’s family, friends, classmates, and all those who knew and loved him. The loss of a member of our GMC family is felt across our campus community, and we extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time.”
Taylor was an offensive lineman for Georgia Military College and previously played at Liberty University before transferring to GMC. As of the newspaper’s deadline an obituary had yet to be published.
“We join together as a community to honor Izaiah’s life and memory, holding his loved ones in our thoughts and remembering the impact he made during his time at Georgia Military College,” stated GMC.
