The Deep Roots Festival will be celebrating its 21st birthday Oct. 19 in the streets of Milledgeville.
Families, friends and students will gather to celebrate the Deep Roots Festival that has everything from music, food, shopping, and more.
“Deep Roots brings a good sense of community and something for the community to do together, and it’s one of the best months of the year,” said Executive Director of Milledgeville Main Street Carlee Schulte. “There are great restaurants. I think it's now almost 15 restaurants just in this one little square block, and then some great shopping to be had as well”.
Deep Roots draws the local community of families, students at Georgia College, Georgia Military College, and children together in celebration and joy.
Beginning at 10 a.m., restaurants, shops, and music will be in the streets of downtown Milledgeville. Activities for everyone including Food Truck Row, Kidzone and more will be accessible to the public.
Live music will be featured in performances by Dire Wolf, Stacii Adams, Georgia College Jazz Band, and more. Local bands will headline from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. with diverse music for all audiences.
Families may enjoy purchasing the Unlimited Kidzone pass. It will be sold for $10 to children six and under. This includes rock climbing walls, large inflatables and a trampoline sky bounce. For over 20 years, the Deep Roots Festival has been celebrating its history. Local restaurants and shops showcase their goods in pop-up tents and stores all throughout town. Participants can also look forward to events such as an antique car show, a friendly community steak off, and shopping for everyone.
The Old Capital Car Club will be hosting its open car show with hundreds of cars lined up for people to enjoy from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with judges presenting prizes for the winning vehicles.
The Steak Cookoff Association will present a neighborhood steak off with participants from the community. At 5 p.m., winners will be announced with thousands of dollars in prizes to be presented. More than 15 restaurants will be serving people throughout the event including The Brick, Amaci’s, The Velvet Elvis Grill and Tap, and more.
Food Truck row also will present different varieties of food.
All festivities begin at 10 a.m., run until 6 p.m., with the concert stage and Food Truck Row shutting down at 11:30 p.m.
A blockade will exist starting on West Hanock Street, the main downtown strip, stemming to Wanye Street, Green Street, and Jefferson Street. Local police will be patrolling the streets to ensure everyone's safety. An open container policy is permitted within the blockades.
“We will be celebrating our 25th anniversary with our team auctioning off goods during Deep Roots by auctioning kayaks, bikes, and more,” said Adam Heagy of Oconee Outfitters. “Deep Roots is unlike any day in Milledgeville with people from all over Central Georgia coming together to celebrating our town”.
