The Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) is currently conducting a death investigation on a Georgia College & State University (GCSU) student who was found dead in her dorm room late last month.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Alexis Diane Gunter, is from Byron and was a nursing student at the college. According to the GBI, on June 29 at about 12:25 p.m., the GCSU Police Department requested the GBI to assist.
Preliminary information indicates another student requested a welfare check around 9 a.m. on June 29. GCSU Police Department officers responded and found Gunter.
Gunter’s body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy. The results of the autopsy are pending toxicology testing.
At this time, there are no signs of foul play.
