Stop-N-Save pockets money after voiding transactions
On May 24, law enforcement was dispatched to the Stop-N-Save in reference to a theft reported. Upon arrival, the store owner explained that a former employee, identified as John Minh Pham, was seen on surveillance voiding cash transactions and pocketing the money. The owner believes Pham pocketed anywhere between $2,500-$3,000 but could not prove it at the time of the statement. This is due to the fact that when a transaction is voided in their system, it does not show what items had initially been scanned so that is why they must review footage and go transaction by transaction. So, the owner provided surveillance footage of transactions that he could for Pham to be charged on this date. The footage showed Pham doing a cash transaction scanning a Marlboro 100 red box worth $64.99 and 2 cherry sours candy bags for $1.78 totaling $71.37 after taxes. On surveillance, Pham is seen taking $80 cash from the customer, returning $8.63 to the customer, then voiding the transaction after the customer walks away, and pocketing the $80. When law enforcement arrived to confront Pham, he initially denied taking any of the money. Pham was then arrested, placed in double locking handcuffs, and transported to the Baldwin County LEC without incident. At this time, a warrant for Theft by Taking (Misd.) was secured for Pham.
