Woman steals phone charger
On Oct. 21, law enforcement met with the manager at the Jet Food Store, at 111 S. Wayne St., in reference to shoplifting.
On Oct. 17, surveillance footage showed an unknown woman concealing a $20 phone charger under her arm and leaving the store in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado.
Law enforcement attempted to contact the registered owner of the vehicle but were unable to reach them. No charges were secured as of the newspaper’s deadline due to the subject not yet being identified.
Woman steals $20 worth of items
On Oct. 23, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N.
Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting.
The manager stated she observed a female, later identified as Jessica Bean, failing to scan five items. Bean then walked past the final point of sale on the grocery side of the store, where the manager confronted Bean and brought her to the Asset Protection Office. The total value of the items Bean failed to scan was $20.88. Bean was served a Notice of Prohibited Entry and charged with theft by shoplifting.
Woman caught shoplifting
On Oct. 27, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N.
Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting.
Yasmin Andrews was scanning cheaper items and pretending to scan more expensive items. The manager recovered all the items that were not scanned. The total amount of unscanned items was approximately $238.14. Andrews received a citation for theft by shoplifting.
Drunk driver stopped on Hwy 49
On Oct. 31, while patrolling the 300 block of Highway 49, an officer observed a white Lincoln Town Car failing to maintain the proper lane of travel. The vehicle crossed over the fog line on the right-hand side of the road multiple times and over the center line once. The vehicle came to a stop just west of Felton Drive. The driver, Terrence Roberts, had bloodshot eyes and stunk of an unknown alcoholic beverage. Roberts was also struggling to keep his head in an upright position.
Roberts admitted to drinking and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Roberts agreed to a state administered test on the Intoxilyzer 9000. Roberts blew two adequate samples, the lowest of which being a .268 blood alcohol concentration. Roberts received a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive within a single lane.
Vehicle pursuit leads into Baldwin County
On Nov. 1, dispatch advised the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office of a vehicle pursuit in Jones County approaching Baldwin County on Highway 22. A Baldwin County officer set up spike strips at the intersection of Highway 22 and Browns Crossing Road. A white vehicle traveling east with patrol units pursuing it hit the trap. The Nissan Versa continued driving east on Highway 22. A Gray police officer was able to execute a PIT maneuver in the 400 block of Highway 22, ending the pursuit. When the driver, Tyrone Jackson, came to a stop he refused to exit the vehicle and continued to try and drive away. An officer activated their department issued Taser and fired one cartridge. The first set of electrodes failed to make good contact and they fired the second cartridge from the taser. The second deployment made good connection, which resulted in neuromuscular incapacitation. Jackson continued to refuse to get out of the vehicle and continued to attempt to drive off. The officer re-arced the taser until a lieutenant pulled Jackson out of the vehicle. Jackson was taken into custody and placed in the back of a patrol car. EMS cleared Jackson and Jackson was turned over to the Gray Police Department. The Nissan Versa was turned over to Gotcha Towing.
Drunk driver apprehended with drugs
On Nov. 2, law enforcement was dispatched to the area of Linton Road and Sibley Road in reference to a deer wreck. The driver, Amanda Van Houten, was found sitting in the driver’s seat.
Her vehicle smelled of marijuana and an unknown alcoholic beverage.
Van Houten stated she was a mobile bartender and was going home from working a Halloween party in Hancock County. After being asked to exit the vehicle, Van Houten stated she does smoke marijuana but had not smoked any that night, nor did she consume any alcoholic beverages. Van Houten reportedly smelled of an alcoholic beverage and had bloodshot and glossy eyes. The officer conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety test and determined that she was too impaired to drive. Due to the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, law enforcement conducted a probable cause search. During the search, the officer located a black locked tube in Van Houten’s purse, along with a clear zip-lock bag containing a crystal- like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Inside the tube, was a clear bag with a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. A warrant for possession of methamphetamine was secured against Van Houten.
She also received citations for DUI refusal and open container.
