GMC Prep moves above .500 on the season

Georgia Military Prep (GMCP) found early success in region play going 2-0 against Wilkinson County to bring their record above .500 at 7-6, tying the Bulldogs with Glascock County for the GHSA A D2 region 5 lead.

The Bulldogs baseball team is ranked number one in their region in part due to Johnson County’s surprising loss to the Georgia School for Innovation and Classic (GSIC) who started 0-8 prior to their upset win over the Trojans.

GSIC is also the next opponent for the Bulldogs who along with their two wins over Wilkinson County last Tuesday and Wednesday also lost twice to Jasper County last Monday and Thursday.

Bulldogs head coach Kyle Redmond expressed his admiration for the Bulldogs region opponents and how ready they will need to be each week.

“Well, it’s always good to win region games no matter who they are against. You look at Johnson County, they went 1-1 against a 0-8 GSIC team, so nothing is guaranteed in our region.” Redmond said. “We have GSIC coming up this week, so it was a wakeup call to our guys that we need to be ready to play.”

Redmond also added that he is pleased with the improvement of his teams performance.

“(Our) Pitching continued to dominate. Our defense was very good again.

Offensively, we started hitting a little better.

We faced some strong pitching against Jasper and held our own.”

Redmond added that GMCP leadoff hitter Noah Goddard was dealing with a hamstring injury, but they are hopeful that he will return by next week.

As for the Bulldogs’ upcoming opponent GSIC, the Bulldogs will be very focused mentally and physically knowing that the Patriots have found some momentum with an upset win over a very good Johnson County team.

“I think if we don’t come ready to play each game anyone can be a challenge. GSIC is a very well coached team, so from that aspect they will be tough.” Redmond said. “If my guys come ready to play, I like our chances against almost anyone.

They know that things are getting real now that region has started, and they are carrying themselves differently. I like where they are mentally.” GMCP travels to Hephzibah on Tuesday to play game one of their two game series with GSIC before they will return home on Wednesday to host the Patriots at 5:00pm.
