BOTH HANDS AND FEET ARE NEEDED TO COUNT TOTALNUMBER OF ARRESTS
A man was booked at the county jail for the 16th time after reportedly ramming a cop car and barreling through a church parking lot before hiding out alongside railroad tracks.
It all happened Monday afternoon in typically quiet Coopers community. Landers William Robinson, 34, was arrested on a laundry list of charges, including possession of methamphetamine, fleeing/attempting to elude and aggravated assault on a peace officer.
It all began as a potential “suicide by cop” scenario, as one of Robinson’s family members called 911 after Robinson “told family members that he would get into a car chase and shootout with law enforcement, if law enforcement attempted to stop him.”
Two deputies then made their way down Ga. 243 to Coopers, where a Ford Explorer matching the description of Robinson’s vehicle was spotted at the old Pierce’s store, according to the incident report.
Added one of the deputies in his incident report narrative: “I positioned my patrol car in front of the Explorer in an attempt to box it in, as the (other deputy) positioned his patrol car to the rear of the vehicle. I exited my patrol car, drew my department issued firearm and gave Robinson verbal commands to exit the vehicle and show his hands. Robinson yelled, ‘(Expletive) you.’ Robinson placed the Explorer in reverse, and rammed (the other deputy’s) patrol car.”
Robinson then proceeded to speed through the parking lot, nearly taking out several parked cars. He then made a right on 243, reaching speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour before making a sudden left into Coopers Hill Baptist Church. He then cut through a trail behind the church for roughly a quarter-mile before getting out and taking off on foot.
Two sheriff’s office drones were brought in for assistance with the search, as was Georgia State Patrol K-9 Trooper Duco. A perimeter was set up, and Duco went to work. Robinson was located hiding in a thick brush pile beside the railroad tracks, roughly a mile away from his abandoned vehicle.
While deputies dug through the brush pile, Robinson began “attempting to chew and swallow narcotics.” He was handcuffed and detained without incident. In the process, Duco reportedly became physical with Robinson. A deputy transported Robinson to the hospital “for treatment related to the K-9 apprehension and the ingestion of suspected narcotics.”
According to his county jail history, which includes an alias of “Fat Boy,” Monday marked Robinson’s fifth methamphetamine-related arrest. In 2020, he was arrested for aggravated assault and felony theft of an automobile. That netted him prison time, and Robinson spent February 2021 through October 2025 at Baldwin State Prison. Between 2015 and 2020, he was booked at the county jail on 10 different occasions.
