FACES, PLACES, AND INNER SPACES: Chris Cook exhibit opens at John Marlor Art Center

A new art exhibit at the John Marlor Art Center invites visitors to slow down and reflect on how people, places, and memories shape the way we see the world.

Faces, Places, & Inner-Spaces, an exhibit by artist Chris Cook, opened March 6 and will run through March 26 at the gallery located on North Wayne Street in downtown Milledgeville. The exhibit features a collection of artwork that explores the connection between observation and personal reflection.

Cook’s work blends images of people, environments, and emotional or internal landscapes. Some pieces feel grounded in real places and familiar scenes, while others lean more toward interpretation and personal meaning. Together, the collection encourages viewers to think about how memory, time, and experience influence the way we understand the spaces around us.

Throughout the exhibit, Cook experiments with contrast and composition. Some artworks focus on human presence, while others highlight the feeling of a place itself. The variety allows visitors to interpret the pieces in their own way and reflect on their own memories and experiences.

The exhibit also shows Cook’s interest in exploration rather than repetition. Each piece feels slightly different in style or perspective, suggesting an artist who is constantly experimenting and searching for new ways to express ideas through visual storytelling.

Georgia College student Grant Brazile said the exhibit stood out to him because of the way it blended realistic scenes with more abstract ideas.

“I liked how some of the pieces showed real places, but they still felt emotional and open to interpretation,” Brazile said. “It makes you stop and think about how people experience places differently.”

The John Marlor Art Center regularly hosts exhibitions featuring regional artists, giving community members and students an opportunity to experience different styles of art close to campus.

Faces, Places, & Inner-Spaces is open to visitors Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
