Woman cited for shoplifting
On Jan. 7, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifting. Brittany Philippe was caught at self-checkout not scanning her items.
Asset Protection intercepted her before exiting the store. Philippe was issued a citation for shoplifting.
Wanted man lies about name
On Jan. 9, while on patrol in the 100 block of Barnes Avenue, an officer observed a black 2003 Ford Expedition, failing to maintain the proper lane of travel. The vehicle crossed over the center line two times. The driver stated she was attempting to miss pot holes in the roadway but there were no pot holes present in that area to avoid. The rear passenger, later identified as Ricky Johnson, stated he did not have any ID on his person. When asked for his name, Johnson initially gave the first name as “Maurice,” but then said Ricky with an “ey” at the end. GCIC/NCIC showed no driver found under that name. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office in house records also had no one named Rickey Johnson. However, Ricky Johnson with the same date of birth displayed a picture of Johnson. Johnson had an active arrest warrant for a parole violation. Johnson was placed under arrest, and transported to the jail without incident. A warrant for giving a false name and date of birth to a law enforcement officer was sworn against Johnson.
Man without license plate flees police
On Jan. 9, while patrolling the area of Vinson Highway and Coombs Avenue, an officer observed a black SUV with a piece of cardboard with “tag applied for” written on it displayed, instead of a valid Georgia license plate. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the driver fled on Pine Avenue at a high rate of speed. The driver turned left onto Magnolia Avenue and continued for approximately a quarter mile before coming to a stop in the yard of 301 Magnolia Avenue. The officer positioned their patrol vehicle on the driver's side of the Toyota Highlander, utilizing the push bumper to eliminate the possibility of the driver fleeing on foot. The driver, identified as Quantarius Cannie, was placed under arrest for fleeing and attempting to elude. Cannie was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, no insurance, and no registration.
Woman arrested for DUI
On Jan. 11, law enforcement was dispatched 110 Old Williamsburg Rd. in reference to a private property vehicle collision. William Feutral called and stated Loretta Moore had struck his vehicle and that she was intoxicated.
As police arrived, Feutral was at the end of the driveway and Moore was attempting to leave. Moore denied having struck another vehicle or consuming any alcoholic beverages that day. Moore consented to the Standardized Field Sobriety Test but later stated the test was not needed and that she should not be driving a vehicle. Moore later admitted to drinking whiskey earlier in the day.
Moore received a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Underage adult arrested for DUI
On Jan. 11, law enforcement was dispatched to 132 Moore St. in reference to a motor vehicle accident. The driver, identified as Jamell Odaine, stated that while driving home, a dog ran into the roadway, causing him to swerve and lose control of the vehicle. Odaine had the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. When asked, he admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to driving. Through a Standardized Field Sobriety test, he was determined unsafe to drive. Odaine was transported to the jail to complete a test on INTOX 9000 and his breath sample gave a result of 0.170 BAC. He was turned over to jail staff and issued citations for violation of learners permit and DUI alcohol under 21.
Unlicensed driver flees scene of accident
Law enforcement was dispatched to Waffle House, at 3059 N. Columbia St., in reference to a hit-and-run accident.
Dispatch advised the office to be on the lookout for a white work van with ladders on the roof that had reportedly left the scene. A vehicle matching the description was parked at Lucerito Restaurant, located at 2937 N. Columbia St. The driver, identified as Elvis Adonias Roquel, stated he had not been in the area of the Waffle House at the time of the incident. At Waffle House, a white Honda Accord had heavy damage to the driver's side. The vehicle appeared to have been pushed sideways within its parking space. The vehicle owner, Makayla Allen, and a witness, Valenzia McCullough, were present at the scene. McCullough stated she observed the white van pull into the parking lot, then back up, strike the Honda Accord, and leave the scene.
The van at the Lucero Restaurant had fresh damage on the passenger-side rear bumper, including white paint transfer consistent with the Honda and the Honda had a black paint transfer on the damaged area of the driver-side door approximately 23 inches from the ground. The damage on the van's bumper was also approximately 23 inches from the ground and contained white paint transfer. Elvis was charged with driving without a license and duty to report an accident.
