Individual shoplifts nicotine patches

On Dec. 10, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart at 2592 N.

Columbia St. in reference to a shoplifter in custody. Walmart’s Loss Prevention personnel stated Faye Knopf was inside the store near the health and beauty section with nicotine patches and her purse on top of the merchandise. The personnel saw Knopf move to the homeware section and open the package of nicotine patches and put them in their purse. Knopf then discarded the packaging. Knopf was issued a citation for shoplifting.

Door flipper steals vehicle

On Dec. 11, dispatch was advised of a stolen vehicle out of Prospect 519 at 519 N. Clark St. The victim, Riley Mitchell, stated she parked her car in front of the H building, in the last spot closest to the fence. When she walked outside that afternoon, she realized it was stolen.

She stated her wallet with her driver’s license and bank cards were inside of the vehicle along with the keys. Surveillance footage showed at least one subject in the parking lot checking door handles on vehicles Dec.11. The car was seen shortly after this, leaving the complex. While searching the area, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle in the area of Caraker Avenue. When the sheriff’s office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the vehicle began to flee. During the pursuit, the vehicle came to a voluntary stop at the intersection of the Bypass and Allen Memorial Drive. The driver, Corey Reaves, fled and was later located and arrested by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with theft by taking.

Shoplifter apprehended

On Dec. 12 law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N.

Columbia St., in reference to a theft.

Anthony Ellington approached the last point of sale with unbagged merchandise. Ellington was in possession of a receipt that was not for the merchandise in his basket. Ellington was detained in the Asset Protection office. The total value of the merchandise Ellington was shoplifting was $276.29. Ellington was placed under arrest for theft by shoplifting.

Wanted man caught with marijuana

On Dec. 12, law enforcement was patrolling the area of Edwards Street and Barnes Avenue when an officer observed a Volkswagen SUV fail to stop at the stop sign as it turned onto Edwards Street from Barnes Avenue. The same vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign as it turned onto Coombs Avenue from Edwards Street. The driver, identified as Takazi Robinson, had the odor of marijuana coming from his person.

Robinson admitted he had a small amount of marijuana under the driver’s seat. A GCIC check revealed Robinson’s driver’s license was suspended. It was also discovered that Robinson had an outstanding probation warrant through the Gordon Police Department. Robinson was detained until Gordon PD could confirm the warrant. A probable cause search of the vehicle led officers to find two bags of a green leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana, under the driver’s seat and another larger bag of suspected marijuana behind the front passenger seat. Gordon PD confirmed the warrant was valid and Robinson was placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant. The vehicle was released to Robinson’s mother. Robinson was issued a citation for driving while license suspended and served with his outstanding warrant.

The marijuana investigation was turned over to the Drug Task Force.

Juveniles arrested for stealing car

On Dec. 12, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office received a flock notification for a vehicle reported stolen to the Milledgeville Police Department. An officer located the Nissan Sentra traveling east on Ivey Drive. They turned around on the vehicle and caught up to it near 102 Effingham Rd. An unknown person exited the passenger side of the vehicle and began running into the woods. The driver continued on Effingham Road and turned south on South Wayne Street. The driver turned east on Caraker Avenue and then south on Vinson Highway. A deputy was at the intersection of Bell Avenue and Vinson Highway and continued following. The driver turned east onto Thompson Circle, ignoring a traffic stop, and turned south on Marion Street. The driver accelerated until they reached the area of Oak Drive and Daphney Street, where two unknown people exited the passenger side of the vehicle and ran into the woods. The driver then accelerated and turned south on Daphney Street. They continued to flee eventually traveling north bound on State Route 29 Bypass at speeds reaching 124 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour speed zone. The driver stopped the vehicle just south of Allen Memorial Drive. The driver exited the vehicle and began running across the south bound lanes of the State Route 29 Bypass and into the woods. An officer located the juvenile driver using a drone and created a perimeter. It was determined all parties involved were juveniles. One juvenile was checked by EMS for chest pain and transported to Atrium Navicent Baldwin. The juvenile driver was arrested for theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude, speeding, reckless driving, driving without a license, failure to obey a traffic control device, and failure to maintain lane.

Drunk man walks into home uninvited

On Dec. 14, law enforcement responded to 102 Gilmer Ave. in reference to a burglary in progress.

Carol Trawick, advised that a male, later identified as Elrico Butts, had entered her and her husband’s residence. Officers arrived on scene and detained Butts. Butts smelled strongly of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming and he also had slurred speech, which led officers to believe he was under the influence of alcohol. Butts initially would not tell the officer what he was doing at the residence. The husband, David, stated he was asleep in bed when he woke up to the noise of someone walking through the side door of the residence. David stated he believed at the time that it was his daughter, but, when he opened his eyes, Butts was standing in his bedroom. David stated he asked Butts how he got inside the house and told him to get out. Carol stated she must have left the side door unlocked, which is how Butts was able to get into the residence. Butts’ was asked numerous times what he was doing at the residence, but would not give any answer to the question. A warrant for criminal trespass was secured for Butts.

Man arrested for DUI and THC possession

On Dec. 15, dispatch received a call about a car driving on the wrong side of the roadway. An officer observed a vehicle traveling south on North Columbia Street in the inside a north bound lane and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Christian Beckham, had the odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and glossy, red bloodshot eyes. Beckham stated he last drank two or three beers earlier that day. He consented to field sobriety testing and was determined unsafe to drive. During his arrest, Beckham stated he had a grinder with marijuana inside his pocket, along with a THC vape. The grinder was located in the front right pocket of his blue jeans. The vape was not located on his person. Beckham stated the vape may be in the vehicle he was driving. While conducting a search of the vehicle, a deputy located a plastic container, containing THC wax. At the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Beckham completed a breath test that indicated a breath alcohol content of 0.121g, with no errors indicated. Beckham was issued citations for driving under the influence and driving on the wrong side of the road. A warrant was later sworn against Beckham for possession of a controlled substance.
