Progress continues on construction for the highly anticipated Baldwin County Water Park, and certain areas of the park are expected to be ready by late May.
According to County Manager Carlos Tobar, the project comes from residential feedback that expressed an interest in having more outdoor recreational activities for young families in Baldwin, and the board of commissioners aimed its focus on providing a new recreational amenity.
Tobar gave an update on the park’s construction, and what community members have to look forward to at the park.
“We have received all documentation that we needed from the granting agency, and that’s terrific going forward. Once county commissioners decide on phase two then we will have a better feeling of the opening day,” Tobar said. “Part of the park may be ready by Memorial Day, and some parts may need more time.”
The water park will have numerous amenities that are suitable for all ages, and will have accessibility features as well to ensure there is something at the park for all Baldwin County residents to enjoy.
“I anticipate some folks using the pools at the park for exercising in the morning. We are going to have swim lessons and, for those with disabilities, all of the pools will be zero entry to accommodate. It’s going to be a waterpark for all ages to enjoy,” said Tobar.
The design for the water park is based on the successful Southern Pines Water Park in Dublin, and Tobar hopes for a similar outcome in Baldwin County upon the park’s opening.
“We mimicked Southern Pines, which has been an outstanding success. There are some facilities in the region that are just splash pads, but we wanted for the park to provide more activities.” Tobar said.
Community members can anticipate an official opening date in the near future.
